Gao Mei and Syong Ge are named after the city they represent: Kaohsiung (高雄 "Gao Syong"). In the shape of droplets and translucent, the two water spirits personify Kaohsiung as a city of the sea and the sun.
Water and light, arguably the most essential natural elements, make for the siblings’ radiant appearance. The spheres above their crested heads absorb solar energy – like the roof of The World Games Main Stadium – and illuminate both with a message of ecology and environmental protection.
Gao Mei and Syong Ge, in their pleasing pink and blue, show another trait of the Kaohsiung residents through their demeanor: friendliness and hospitality. Both make them the perfect hosts to The World Games 2009.
