What is the World Games? |
The World Games has a short history of only 25 years. The World Games was established by 12 non-Olympic sports federations in 1980 in the Netherlands. It was hoped that this event would provide a global competition arena for non-Olympic sports, in order to attract media attention, raise funds, enhance the sports popularity and develop a variety of sports. Same as with the Olympics Games, the World Games is also held at quadrennial intervals. However, as the World Games sports are completely different from the Olympic sports, the World Games is event dubbed the “Olympics of non-Olympic sports”. |
How are the World Games sports determined? |
To qualify as a World Game sport, the sport must be recognized by the General Association of International Sports Federations. Many people wish baseball and softball would return to the World Games arena in Kaohsiung in 2009, after they could not be included in the London Olympics in 2012. However, these two sports are not yet members of the World Games. It will take more efforts to make them World Games sports. |
How important is World Games? |
The World Games is the Olympics of non-Olympic sports. It is the second largest sports event in the world, next only to the Olympics Games. |
